What is a kimono?
A kimono is a traditional Japanese garment in the form of a long, loose robe with wide sleeves, tied with a sash. The word “kimono” means a “thing to wear” (ki “wear” and mono “thing”). The history of the kimono dates back the Heian period (794-1192). In modern Japan, kimonos are mostly worn by women, particularly on special occasions.
Kimono as a current fashion trend
Everyone has been rocking a kimono lately and it’s the one summer trend you should have in your wardrobe. There are many types of kimonos and endless possibilities to style them which makes them fun and versatile. It can completely transform your outfit, you can wear it as a short jacket, a coat, as a dress on its own, with a bikini, a pair of jeans or shorts, or with anything else that you want. It’s also a great choice of outfit for summer festivals.
Have a look at the kimonos I picked for you below.
My kimono look
I am wearing a long printed kimono from Zara. I paired it with white jeans, a simple vest top and nude patent heeled sandals. I accessorised the look with a basket bag with sequin palm detail and long stone earrings.
What are your thoughts about the kimono trend? How would you wear it?
