If you asked me about one piece of wardrobe that is timeless, iconic and can be worn with absolutely everything, the answer would be: a trench coat. A classic trench coat never goes out of style. It’s lightweight and offers just the right amount of protection from the British weather whilst making you look sophisticated and elegant.
THE HISTORY OF THE TRENCH COAT
Trench coats have a long and rich history, their origins date back as far as the 1850s.
Invention of the trench coat is claimed by two British luxury clothing manufacturers, Burberry and Aquascutum.
Trench coats were used by military officers in World War I to protect them from the rain as well as the mud in the trenches. This is where the name “trench coat” originated from.
After World War II the trench coat became popular amongst investigators, travellers, Hollywood stars, as well as gangsters and femmes fatales in the movies.
Today, a trench coat is a cornerstone of any well-edited wardrobe.
There are many variations of the modern trench coat in terms of not only colour, like stone, navy, khaki, fresh pink or pale powder blue, but also style.
With a variety to choose from, everyone can find their perfect trench. This timeless piece will complement your personal style and it’s a must-have for any fashion lover.
HOW TO STYLE A TRENCH COAT
It can be styled with both smart and casual clothing, whether it’s an evening dress or a pair of ripped jeans.
The recent runway trends are to wear a trench coat off the shoulder and/or oversized.
