Do You Feel Rocky In Your Career?

Do you feel rocky when it comes to your career? Perhaps you are on the fence at the moment as to whether you have made the right choice, or maybe there have been industry changes that have left you feeling a little shaken? It’s hard when things like this happen, but it’s important that you do not let it fester in your mind. Instead, you should start looking for solutions, or at the very least, things that you can do to give you a little more clarity.

We’re going to try and help you with that today, which is why we’ve written this article. Down below, we’re going to explore some of our suggestions for what you should be doing if you feel rocky, shaky, or unsure about your career. So, if you are interested in learning more about our thoughts and advice, feel free to continue reading.

Talk To Your Boss

We’re going to kick things off by recommending that you talk to your boss. Now, some people are going to say that this is a bad idea, and it might be if you don’t get on with your boss, or if they are not the kind of person that you can talk to. But, for your sake we hope not, because to be honest – who wants to work with someone like that?

If your boss is approachable, and they genuinely seem interested in helping you, you can ask to have a discussion with them about your career, your future at the company, progression opportunities and so much more. Sometimes it helps to hear your options and an evaluation from someone else, other than your own mind.

Look For Alternative Options

This is not to say that you are planning to leave your job, but it’s always handy to have a backup plan just in case you find that you do want to. It might be time to start looking at other career paths that you may well be interested in, as at least this way you know that you have options available to you.

But, what would you do? This depends on the skills that you’ve got at the moment, whether you’re willing to go back to education, and a whole load of factors like this. We know that the idea of starting over can be tough, but just because you have spent so long doing something, does not mean that it’s too late to do something else.

Complete A Background Check Of Your Own

It’s important to know that if you are going to be applying for new positions, they are likely going to run a background check on you to ensure that you are a suitable candidate.

However, this is not as straightforward as it seems because background check reports are often filled with errors, and failed background checks are the #1 disqualifier for delivery driver jobs (including those with UPS, FedEx, Amazon Flex, DoorDash, Uber, Lyft, Spark Driver, Instacart, etc.). People are turning to consumer protection attorneys for help saving their careers here, but you can try to give yourself a little more reassurance before you get to this point by running a background check on yourself to see what comes up. This way, if there are any errors, you can get them sorted before you start applying for new positions.

Are You Happy Where You Are?

You need to be honest with yourself – are you happy with where you are? Is the company that you work for good to you? Do they appreciate you? More than that, are you happy with the role that you do at the moment? Are the responsibilities right for you, and is there the chance that you could progress to a higher role in the future?

We know that it’s hard to ask yourself things like this, especially when you’re just trying to make it through the day some days, but you must ensure that you’re happy, or it’s not worth it. If your days are consumed with misery, you’ve already got the answer that you’re looking for, you just need to be brave enough to do something about it.

What Markets Are Safe From AI?

Another point that you should think about is AI. You’ve probably read a few reports that suggest that AI is coming for all our jobs and this might be true. That said, there are also some jobs and careers that are safer than others.

For instance, you might want to think about becoming a tutor. If you become a tutor or a teacher, your career is likely safe from AI, at least for now. There might be a time in the future when AI can do the job of a teacher, but we’re not quite at that point yet. On the other hand, a role like customer service is probably one of the most exposed to AI. This could easily be replicated with the right piece of software.

Take Some Time Out

Last, but certainly not least, you should think about taking some time away from your work. This can be highly beneficial, particularly if you are feeling lost, drained, or anxious about your professional future. Anything like this is sure to be cured by some time apart.

So, what does this mean? Does it mean that you should be on a beach somewhere? Not necessarily, it’s possible that you can get the relaxing retreat that you need in the comfort of your own home. It’s just a case of working out what’s required to ensure that you feel refreshed and ready to start another work day in the future.

We hope this helps you understand some of the key steps that you should take if you’re starting to feel insecure or uneasy about your career. When it comes to changing up your career, it can be a disconcerting or daunting experience. However, it can also lead to fantastic rewards and guarantee that you feel better about your future in the long term.
