Paris is supposed to be the most romantic city in the world. But London isn’t that far behind. While it doesn’t offer the beauty and charm of some European capitals, it does have wonderful views and cozy corners from which to watch the world go by with a loved one.
So, what can you do that’s romantic in London?
Take A Stroll Through Hyde Park
Hyde Park is one of London’s best-known parks in the West of the city, near to the shopping areas and Park Lane. A lot of investment has gone into it, and it offers lots of activities, even in the midst of a built-up area.
For example, you can rent a pedal boat in Hyde Park’s Serpentine Lake together or simply share quiet moments in the Italian Gardens. You can also go for long strolls because the park is so large, allowing you to get to know your partner better and plan your next move.
If you can find the rose gardens, which are in bloom from the summer onwards, that’s also helpful. Gardeners plant various colours and arrange them in stunning displays you’ll love.
Walk Along The South Bank
Walking along the South Bank at sunset is another option. This part of town gives you views of The City and St Paul’s cathedral. If you keep going, you’ll also see Big Ben Tower and the Houses of Parliament.
The South Bank is fun during the daytime, but it comes alive at night because of the street performers, food stalls, and city lights. The path that runs along the South Bank of the Thames is well-lit, and there is plenty of security around for peace of mind.
You can find popular places to eat along the Southbank. Most popular chains that you’ll recognize are nearby.
Go To A Concert At St Martin-in-the-Fields
If you want to take the experience up a notch, you could also go to a concert by candlelight at St Martin-in-the-Fields next to Trafalgar Square. This church used to be on the edge of the city (hence the name) but is now right in the heart of the thriving metropolis of London.
St Martin-in-the-Field offers classical architecture on the northeastern corner of Trafalgar Square. The building has a high steeple and often puts on incredible shows and choir music that’s tasteful and often spiritual.
The location is well-known for its Chamber Choir. This group includes over 30 singers and they put on around six concerts every year, so there’s a good chance your visit will coincide with one of them.
Go On A Sky Garden Date
Another option is to go on a Sky Garden date. These are handy if you want views over the city.
The Sky Garden is based at the top of London’s Walkie Talkie, one of the most interesting buildings in the city. You could come in by train, leave your belongings at the luggage storage at Kings Cross and then head out to this incredible destination.
The best time to visit the Sky Garden on a date is in the evening when the city’s lights are twinkling and you can see everything. However, you may need to book several months in advance, since it can get extraordinarily busy.
Visit Keats House
If you and your partner are interested in poetry, you might also want to visit Keats House, near Hampstead Heath. This is the location where Keats wrote his famous poems and got inspiration from what he saw around him.
At the back of Keats House is a garden where Keats wrote Ode to a Nightingale, one of his most famous pieces. However, the spot is quite tucked away, so it is also a good place to go for a first kiss if you’re feeling lucky.
Go On A Thames River Cruise
Keeping it simple, you could also go on a Thames River cruise. These do everything for you, including providing food and champagne if you want it. Thames cruises usually run from Tower Bridge to the Houses of Parliament. However, you can sometimes find longer cruises if you wanted to make a whole day of it.
Boats can bobble quite a bit in the water, so you’ll want to check that your date isn’t at risk of getting seasick. Wanting to barf isn’t a great feeling when you go out with someone.
Explore Notting Hill Together
Notting Hill is another location to visit together, made famous now in several films. Most couples head to the Portobello Road Market for shopping or peeking in quaint bookshops, including those from movies. These locations have a magical feel about them that’s different from other places in London, far from the economic heart of the city.
Here, you can stop for a coffee together in a cafe and watch the world go by. Or you can fully embrace the boho vibe of the place and what it stands for. There are even auction houses nearby you could visit.
Dine At Clos Maggiore
If it’s food you want, then dining at Clos Maggiore in Covent Gardens is another possibility. Many people describe this location as London’s most romantic restaurant, and if you visit, you’ll quickly see why.
During the evenings, the location switches on its fairy lights and blossoms, so it feels like you’re in an enchanted forest — the opposite of London. Stepping back into the real world after a meal here feels like a shock.
Go To Primrose Hill And Experience The Sunset
Finally, you could visit Primrose Hill for a panoramic view of the London skyline. This mound is one of the high points in London and surrounded by parks, making it a great location for cuddling, especially on warm winter nights. In the distance, you can see the city in front of you, glittering and gleaming, with millions of people going about their business.
Ultimately, London is a great place for romantics. While it doesn’t quite have the beauty of Paris, there are all sorts of cosy spots you can find if you know where to look for them.
Thanks for stopping by!
