Most importantly, plan for the future now and ensure that the website remains stable and can easily scale with increased customer demand down the line.  

Don’t: Neglect Website Security  

Focusing exclusively on building one’s brand and customer acquisition at the expense of website security from the get-go is a common and costly pitfall. Any reputable host offers SSL certification and https nowadays, which does reduce the risks. However, even a single phishing link or malicious tracker that you didn’t defend against can tank your reputation with customers and search engines alike.

Securing admin credentials is a top priority. You need a unique, complex password and multi-factor authentication to make it impossible for attackers to compromise the account. Securing access itself is important, especially if you or your team members often administer the site remotely from potentially unsafe networks.

Do: Make Protecting Business Data Your Highest Priority  

Every e-commerce business lives and dies by its ability to collect, capitalize on, and secure data. Much of that data is sensitive, including user buying habits, personal and payment information, as well as financial and logistics records. A breach that puts such data in the hands of unscrupulous attackers can irreparably damage your reputation.

Be transparent about total costs and data collection. Clearly indicate each step in the checkout process, and enable autofill for as many entries as possible to speed up the process while minimizing errors.
